The postwar West told itself marriage had become a free choice; the plurality of Americans now meet through an arranger whose revenue depends on the search never ending. Four essays trace the arrangement forward — the dating app that profits from the search, the AI companion that profits from the arrival, the synthetic body being assembled beneath both, and the verified human that becomes the scarce asset — read through the Masands Cycle: a mediation over intimate life with no fixed text behind it, rewritten in private toward retention. The feeling is authentic. The choice was arranged.
